acoustics1220: (my journal :: my opinion)
[personal profile] acoustics1220
The craze is publishing anything and everything on every site you're connected to, and that's cool.

But that's not what this online space is for me. This is my personal journal that I have a f-locked flist for - so they can read and enjoy fandomy things, or other similar subsjects/topics we enjoy talking about in our little circle. A somewhat secure, trusted group.

This journal is separate from the rest of my life. No one, save 3 people, know me in RL and know the people I run with. Please don't post your comments to my posts on Facebook or Twitter or any other networking site that will highlight what I say to others. On most things I don't care, and that's why those posts are not flocked. Other posts are privated to just you guys. I thought when we posted we could f-lock stuff and that was it, no worries.

Now, I'm not so sure.
I don't mind people linking outside of my journal to other sites when it's public posts, and I'll specifically say 'please link others to this post,' especially when it's awareness type things.

I would just appreciate anything that's part of my life, part of my world, that's semi-private to stay semi-private, and completely private to stay completely private. thank you :)

my tag is only semi-serious

Excuse me, but since when can people post our LOCKED stuff elsewhere? I need to do some research, FAST.

I'm not sure how secure anyone's posts are - I just saw the notification last night about how this feature 'was back' and to check privacy settings concerning this stuff. I don't know where the line is drawn to say 'so and so commented on this____'. And where it gets posted. So I just wanted to make a request to everyone I stay in contact with on here knows that I don't want my privacy compromised.

In all fairness to LJ, a person can always copy and paste the contents of someone's locked posts and post them elsewhere. I have had friends that has happened to. But this feature makes it far more convenient for someone to do it with minimal effort on their part, and that is what makes it so distasteful. LJ needs to allow the BLOGGER to disable this feature for their blog, not depend on commenters to disable it.

I totally understand. I keep my fandom life private from my real life too. In fact, I don't even give out my real name around here. You totally won't see any crossposting from me.

copy/pasting from my flist (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] mollivandersand [livejournal.com profile] faded_facade):

Facebook/Twitter Cross-Post Blocker from [livejournal.com profile] geeklikewoah:

You're probably all aware that Livejournal now allows you to repost comments to Facebook and Twitter. This is a very unpopular new feature. Firefox has an addon that hides the new Facebook / Twitter repost ticky boxes. But here's a little line of code you can use to make it so no one, no matter what browser they're using, can repost comments.

Here's what to do:

1. Go to Custom CSS in Customize Journal Style.

2. Copy and paste

/* ---FB-Twitter Comment Ticky Fix--- */
.b-repost-items, .b-repost-item, .b-repost-item IMG, #entry-form-wrapper .b-repost-item, b-repost-item-fb {
display: none;
}

.b-repost-item .repost_disabled {
color: #CCC;
display: none;
}

into the Custom stylesheet box (after your custom css code) and save changes.

ETA: Apparently this code won't work for people who have disabled customized pages (for communities and such). So it's not perfect, but it's at least a start. And Facebook users wouldn't have the disable option anyway.

;)

You have no worries with me! I don't use Twitter and Facebook, but even if I did, I will/would never publish your private entries somewhere else. =D
