This can be different for different personalities. Some need time (a lot) to themselves. Others need to socialize more and just get on with it. Some need an intervention. It really depends on the person.

I like that this question is slightly vague about the broken heart. Broken heart for losing a significant other, broken heart from losing a dear friendship, broken heart for losing a loved one to death.

Probably one important point to make about this is that for all of these situations, I believe that allowing yourself to grieve is very important. Beyond that, it just depends what works best for you.

I'm mulling over making this a sticky post, but I also like to share my current/lazy music tastes for others. :)

We'll see. For now I'll strike out albums as I get them :)

NEED:

Florence + The Machine, Lungs & Lungs: the B-sides
Curious George: Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the film (Jack Johnson & Friends)
Foster the People
Mumford & Sons
The Script
One Republic
The Fray
Bruno Mars
Augustana
Snow Patrol ( new album out? Have y'all heard the duet with Martha Wainwright? SO GOOD)
The Kooks
Plain White Ts (need their new album)
Boys like Girls, Love Drunk (I want to NOT like this group because I DISAGREE with their band name, but whatever)
Hot Chelle Rae (HCR) Tonight, Tonight (oh so catchy, LOVE IT; I woke up with a strange tattoo, not sure how I got it, not a dollar in my pocket; and it kinda looks just like you mixed with...)

*note, there's a couple of new songs out from Ingrid Michaelson since her last tour/album (pulled out my poster and signed ticket this weekend *happy sigh* good times). I don't like her current ventures...I'm bummed, because I love Ingrid Michaelson, and she's just so darn funny and quirky, but I want AN ALBUM. The ventures of acquiring hard-to-find stuff online is a thrill, but I'm getting lazy.

GIVE ME A NEW ALBUM, INGRID MICHAELSON.

This comes from an article by [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija entitled, Say Yes to Gay YA.
(click the link for the full article)

Our novel Stranger has five viewpoint characters; one, Yuki Nakamura, is
gay and has a boyfriend. Yuki's romance, like the heterosexual ones in
the novel, involves nothing more explicit than kissing.

An agent from a major agency, one which represents a bestselling YA novel in the same genre as ours, called us.

The agent offered to sign us on the condition that we make the gay
character straight, or else remove his viewpoint and all references to
his sexual orientation.

This isn't about that specific agent; we'd gotten other rewrite requests before this one. Previous agents had also offered to take a second look if we did rewrites… including cutting the viewpoint of Yuki, the gay character.

It's time to stand up and demand change. Spread the word everywhere if you are just as angry and outraged by this.

I used to think the drummer was so hot. Nearly 10 years ago.

The post from earlier was supposed to be posted last night, but I fell asleep. :)

DRIVER'S LICENSE

A mother is driving her little girl to her friend's house for a play date.

"Mommy," the little girl asks, "how old are you?"

"Honey, you are not supposed to ask a lady her age," the mother replied.

"It's not polite."

"OK", the little girl says, "How much do you weigh?"

"Now really," the mother says, "those are personal questions and are really none of your business."

Undaunted, the little girl asks, "Why did you and Daddy get a divorce?"

"That's enough questions, young lady! Honestly!"

The exasperated mother walks away as the two friends begin to play.

"My Mom won't tell me anything about her," the little girl says to her friend.

"Well," says the friend, "all you need to do is look at her driver's license. It's like a report card, it has everything on it."

Later that night the little girl says to her mother,

"I know how old you are. You are 32."

The mother is surprised and asks, "How did you find that out?"

"I also know that you weigh 130 pounds."

The mother is past surprised and shocked now.

"How in Heaven's name did you find that out?"

"And," the little girl says triumphantly,

"I know why you and daddy got a divorce."

"Oh really?" the mother asks. "Why?"

"Because you got an F in sex."

acoustics1220: (LJ DRAMA)
I just came across a VERY interesting post. I'll copy paste it here, but everyone should go LOOK at it too. It's from tumblr...

SOURCE
Livejournal DDoS Attacks
Everyone is wondering why LJ keeps getting attacked, and I’ve collected up information throughout the separate times that it was under attack. You have to understand that LJ is like the biggest social media/blogging site for Russia. I have heard it likened to facebook, and they don’t really have anything else there that’s popular to communicate. We have countless areas where we can, and we have freedom of speech.
So there are some popular political bloggers over there who use LJ as their platform. I don’t know if they’re in the campaign or support a certain party or are anti-a-certain-party. I don’t know who is attacking who, but I know someone is doing these attacks in an attempt to shut down the LJ bloggers’ ability to freely speak on one of the few platforms that they have available to them.
I find that amazing, and it makes me support LJ through this even if the customer service on the English side is terrible for not telling us sooner and not explaining the nature of why these attacks are happening. I think a lot of people would be more understanding if they knew the details.
There are so many people who I tell this to and who remain completely ignorant and hateful. I’ve heard people say, Just shut the Russian political blogs down. No, that’s what these stupid hackers want. They want to put pressure on LJ to delete those bloggers and that shouldn’t happen. They shouldn’t win. I don’t care who is saying what, freedom of speech is a right everyone should have.
Edited: This is an old article discussing one of the previous attacks and how the government is trying to control this last avenue of freedom of speech for Russians.
Edit2: Thank you for the reblogs everyone. I think it’s important the information get out there since we’re not being informed about it. I don’t know why the English side of LJ’s customer service isn’t mentioning all the details, but it’s not doing them any favors.
Edit 3: It’s been suggested that if it is the Russian govt coming out and giving more details would put LJ in more trouble. In addition, there’s an article in Russian from SUP that states reimbursements of paid accounts will happen and that they did put protective measures into place, but the hackers used new tactics going after IPs? I think. Babelfish is a rough translator. http://www.sup.com/news_357.html

Not much to see, but listen. Listen to this group of people. I am touched by their concern for each other.
