Struggling to make ends meet, Gardner finds himself and his five-year-old son evicted from their San Francisco apartment with nowhere to go. My Review:
I saw 'The Pursuit of Happyness' last week and I really, really enjoyed it. It's been a long time since I've been to a movie theatre so everything seemed a bit new to me, but back to the movie.
If you like movies with the classic HARD LIFE but has a really good ending, this is one to see.
Will Smith was the perfect choice for the main character. During the movie, Smith narrates at certain points when things took a turn - whether for the good or the bad. Smith's character went through many obstacles but persevered when things got tough.
In one particular instance, Smith decided to pursue a different, better paying career that would allow for his son and him to live a better life, but the problem was that he had to go into an internship - a non-paying job. At that point, the characters son and him were finding residence in shelters that allowed people to come in daily for a room for the night, and then would have to leave the next morning.
During the day - Smith would attend the class for the internship with the brokerage firm, and by night and weekends he would try to earn money through sales of a specific product he had invested in(his current job at the time).
Throughout the movie there were different things that would happen to make their life more difficult and even with those hardships, Smith's character fought with every ounce of will he had to succeed.
This movie is based on true events and the person they were based from was also on Oprah Winfrey's show. If you were to hear his background as a child, you'd be shocked to see what a struggle his life was like. The movie only shows a bit of his adulthood.
This is an inspiring movie that moved me tears, granted, I'm easily moved by emotions so...take it as you will. But I'd give a hearty thumbs up to go see this movie. Reviews on Y! that I've come across give the movie an A- to a C+ and one said that Will Smith is not only a genuine movie star, but a four-star actor (Chicago Sun Times:Richard Roeper) that really carried the movie (Rolling Stone:Peter Travers).
There are great moments, and there are sad moments, and Will Smith captures the essence of it all. My vote - GO SEE IT!
