The Unbreakable Bond
Everyone has one best friend; a person one can talk to about anything, a person who is always there. It's as if that person is your other half. It doesn't matter where you met, or if you've kept in touch or not. Even in distance, the bond is a silent but an unbreakable one. There are many people in this world, but only a few will be friends. Some people turn out to be bad friends, but you can tell a person's true colors when you're in need of help. I'm glad for all the friends I've found and sad for all the one's that I have lost, but they will stay in my memory for as long as I live. ~ Chau Tran

My family celebrates Christmas on December 25th, as well as Christmas Eve on the 24th (we get to open one gift). Usually we'll make Mexican Hot Chocolate, banana bread, and watch TV until a little past midnight.
My family also celebrate New Year's Eve (Dec. 31st), bundled up in blankets and hoodies (to prepare for fireworks outside in the cold), and watch the ball drop on TV broadcast from New York City. Since they are an hour ahead of me, I switch my attention from outside (impatient people with too many fireworks), and TV to watch the music performances. Sometimes I'll climb out on to the roof with my dad and record the fireworks on my camera, or just sit out there and watch all the pretty firework shows reflect off the lakes in the neighborhood.
I ♥ any holiday that involves fire and color and fireworks! :D
My coworker John told me that his cat was seriously ill--throwing up, lethargic, refusing food, dropping weight. The previously healthy 6-year-old, 15-pound cat had lost a third of her body weight over the last few months. The vet couldn't find anything wrong with her. Blood tests were clean, and she didn't have any known illnesses. Yet she was a few days from organ failure.
That was a week ago. She's fine now. The solution was... to stop feeding her Purina cat food.
When John told me that, and said that friends of his had the same problem with their cats and Purina cat food, I looked into it. Holy shit. Take a look at the consumer complaints about Purina cat and dog food. This exact same problem has been an issue with Purina pet foods since 2007, but since this summer, the rate of complaints has picked up drastically. People who previously had to problems with Purina are reporting issues. Comment after comment sounds the same:
I've been feeding my three cats Fancy Feast canned food Chopped Grill Feast for many years. They have always devoured their meal and licked the plates clean. Last week, I noticed they did not want to eat much and went from plate to plate, ate a little. Next day, none of them would eat it. I kept trying new cans. What they did eat made them vomit and one cat was lethargic for days. I refuse to buy any more of this food. It's very scary. I don't know what is wrong with the food, but I fear it has toxins in it. I switched to another brand and the cats are fine now. Did anyone else experience this?
My dogs have been eating Purina Dog Chow (green bag) for about four years. They used to eat only Iams, but due to financial issues, we had to go with a cheaper brand. The last bag I purchased was about a week and a half ago. My 14 years old Labrador has vomited about 5-6 times and my German Shepherd has vomited about 4 times. Something is wrong with this food! The food has a kind of metallic smell to it. It just does not smell right. I'm taking it back to the pet store. I am changing my dogs' food, it's just not worth taking the chance to save a few dollars.
We purchased a large bag of Purina One Salmon dry cat food to give to a needy pet owner. She emailed us a couple of days later ,to say that there were maggots, lots of them with what looked to be like strands or webs with more dead gnats or flies, pieces of web in the food and "shells" of gnats or flies in the bag. Cats would not eat much of the food and, fortunately, they did not get sick. The store had noticed this problem in other bags and was willing to swap out.
I purchased a 34 lb bag of Purina One Smartblend dog food every three to four weeks for my two Labradors. The last bag I purchased seemed fine until I noticed a new infestation of little black bugs. Upon further inspection through the contents of the bag, I noticed clusters of white "eggs" adhered to quite a bit of the food. Some of these clusters contained larvae in the process of hatching. I immediately threw out the remaining contents of the bag but did save samples for my vet.
We went out of town last weekend and had friends dog sit for us. We originally attributed their lethargy and random vomiting to separation anxiety. Although they are doing better, I am still concerned and will be watching them closely. As stated, I saved samples of the infested dog food for our vet in the event that anything results from this issue.-----
I recently switched to the Friskies Poultry Variety pack (32 cans) that says it must be used by August 2013 (12281789 09:31 lo61237) sku (050000454242). I have 5 cats and feeding them this food, I noticed some of them throwing up. There's nothing in it but liquids, no hair ball, no food, nothing. My cats range from 8 weeks to 13 years old.
I switched my own cats to Purina a couple of months ago, and their coats look so much better than they did on the old brand of cat food... but Buffy has started vomiting stomach liquids. Purina and Fancy Feast are off the menu. Permanently.
I have no idea why this isn't news. But if you're feeding your pets any Purina brand, please don't wait for media confirmation that something is going on. Stop feeding your pets Purina immediately.

gandolforf's brother, Eric Lee Bark, pictured above, was last seen in Maquoketa, IA, on November 4, 2011. He gave no word to his family as to where he was going.
Eric was born December 19, 1987. He is 6'2" and weighs approximately 170 pounds. He has hazel eyes and brown hair, and there is a 6" scar on the outside of his left arm, near his elbow. The last time he was seen, he was wearing a dark blue hoodie and blue jeans. His car is also missing; it's a green Jimmy with rust marks.

LOL... With Halloween coming up, I HATE THE COMMERCIALS. I've seen too many Paranormal Activity 3 previews to be able to sleep well enough at night. I'm a little too sensitive to this stuff.
There's a few, but I'll just get into a couple. They were at my parents house on the north side (still living there now). My room and the downstairs are pretty active actually, but I'll only tell my stories.
One night, as per the usual, I had a midnight restroom trip. So I woke up, unlocked my door, and then went to the next room to the right (my dad's restroom). I do my business, whatever, I'm sleepy, and after washing my hands and shutting off the light and the door, I get back into the hallway to my room and just as I get my hand on the doorknob, I hear my pet-name called from downstairs, as if mom was calling me.
I stopped and looked at my mom's door, and it was still shut. So I lean on the banister and look down the stairs, and there are no lights on or anything. I walk over to my mom's door and check it and it's locked and I do a double take downstairs. There's no movement, no lights, nothing. So I go back to my bedroom door, turn towards the staircase and call out 'Mom', just to make sure...no response. So I shake my head and go back to bed. I was thinking, 'I ain't goin' downstairs for nothin' til she comes up and bangs on my door, psshhh.' I shook my head as I locked my door (twisting the knob to make sure it was locked) and got back into bed. NO THANKS.
Harmless, right? No biggie.

This can be different for different personalities. Some need time (a lot) to themselves. Others need to socialize more and just get on with it. Some need an intervention. It really depends on the person.
I like that this question is slightly vague about the broken heart. Broken heart for losing a significant other, broken heart from losing a dear friendship, broken heart for losing a loved one to death.
Probably one important point to make about this is that for all of these situations, I believe that allowing yourself to grieve is very important. Beyond that, it just depends what works best for you.
We'll see. For now I'll
Florence + The Machine, Lungs & Lungs: the B-sides
Curious George: Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the film (Jack Johnson & Friends)
Foster the People
Mumford & Sons
Snow Patrol ( new album out? Have y'all heard the duet with Martha Wainwright? SO GOOD)
Plain White Ts (need their new album)
Boys like Girls, Love Drunk (I want to NOT like this group because I DISAGREE with their band name, but whatever)
Hot Chelle Rae (HCR) Tonight, Tonight (oh so catchy, LOVE IT; I woke up with a strange tattoo, not sure how I got it, not a dollar in my pocket; and it kinda looks just like you mixed with...)
*note, there's a couple of new songs out from Ingrid Michaelson since her last tour/album (pulled out my poster and signed ticket this weekend *happy sigh* good times). I don't like her current ventures...I'm bummed, because I love Ingrid Michaelson, and she's just so darn funny and quirky, but I want AN ALBUM. The ventures of acquiring hard-to-find stuff online is a thrill, but I'm
GIVE ME A NEW ALBUM, INGRID MICHAELSON.

Our novel Stranger has five viewpoint characters; one, Yuki Nakamura, is
gay and has a boyfriend. Yuki's romance, like the heterosexual ones in
the novel, involves nothing more explicit than kissing.
An agent from a major agency, one which represents a bestselling YA novel in the same genre as ours, called us.
The agent offered to sign us on the condition that we make the gay
character straight, or else remove his viewpoint and all references to
his sexual orientation.
This isn't about that specific agent; we'd gotten other rewrite requests before this one. Previous agents had also offered to take a second look if we did rewrites… including cutting the viewpoint of Yuki, the gay character.
It's time to stand up and demand change. Spread the word everywhere if you are just as angry and outraged by this.
A mother is driving her little girl to her friend's house for a play date.
"Mommy," the little girl asks, "how old are you?"
"Honey, you are not supposed to ask a lady her age," the mother replied.
"It's not polite."
"OK", the little girl says, "How much do you weigh?"
"Now really," the mother says, "those are personal questions and are really none of your business."
Undaunted, the little girl asks, "Why did you and Daddy get a divorce?"
"That's enough questions, young lady! Honestly!"
The exasperated mother walks away as the two friends begin to play.
"My Mom won't tell me anything about her," the little girl says to her friend.
"Well," says the friend, "all you need to do is look at her driver's license. It's like a report card, it has everything on it."
Later that night the little girl says to her mother,
"I know how old you are. You are 32."
The mother is surprised and asks, "How did you find that out?"
"I also know that you weigh 130 pounds."
The mother is past surprised and shocked now.
"How in Heaven's name did you find that out?"
"And," the little girl says triumphantly,
"I know why you and daddy got a divorce."
"Oh really?" the mother asks. "Why?"
"Because you got an F in sex."
Livejournal DDoS Attacks
Everyone is wondering why LJ keeps getting attacked, and I’ve collected up information throughout the separate times that it was under attack. You have to understand that LJ is like the biggest social media/blogging site for Russia. I have heard it likened to facebook, and they don’t really have anything else there that’s popular to communicate. We have countless areas where we can, and we have freedom of speech.
So there are some popular political bloggers over there who use LJ as their platform. I don’t know if they’re in the campaign or support a certain party or are anti-a-certain-party. I don’t know who is attacking who, but I know someone is doing these attacks in an attempt to shut down the LJ bloggers’ ability to freely speak on one of the few platforms that they have available to them.
I find that amazing, and it makes me support LJ through this even if the customer service on the English side is terrible for not telling us sooner and not explaining the nature of why these attacks are happening. I think a lot of people would be more understanding if they knew the details.
There are so many people who I tell this to and who remain completely ignorant and hateful. I’ve heard people say, Just shut the Russian political blogs down. No, that’s what these stupid hackers want. They want to put pressure on LJ to delete those bloggers and that shouldn’t happen. They shouldn’t win. I don’t care who is saying what, freedom of speech is a right everyone should have.
Edited: This is an old article discussing one of the previous attacks and how the government is trying to control this last avenue of freedom of speech for Russians.
Edit2: Thank you for the reblogs everyone. I think it’s important the information get out there since we’re not being informed about it. I don’t know why the English side of LJ’s customer service isn’t mentioning all the details, but it’s not doing them any favors.
Edit 3: It’s been suggested that if it is the Russian govt coming out and giving more details would put LJ in more trouble. In addition, there’s an article in Russian from SUP that states reimbursements of paid accounts will happen and that they did put protective measures into place, but the hackers used new tactics going after IPs? I think. Babelfish is a rough translator. http://www.sup.com/news_357.html

LJ Status says...
We can now publicly disclose that we have been experiencing a large-scale DDoS attack the last two days, which has been the reason for the site issues most users have been experiencing. The traffic load has been immense, at many times our normal load level, and the attack is still on-going. We are in constant contact with our providers to mitigate the attack as best as possible. We again apologize for the disruption to LiveJournal usage, and are working to get everything back to normal as soon as we can. Thank you!

Now I'm thinking of leaving LJ once my paid time is up. I have a blog somewhere else...
My only other journal type webpage is here, I think:
LOL - NEVERMIND. Someone else owns that site now...
So, how's tumblr? I think perhaps I need to venture into differently managed JOURNALING sites. IE, blogs not lj clones.
