Support the Holiday Card Project!!!
This image is from deviantART, I recieved a message earlier today from them about a christmas project that they do with the online community at dA.
Well, I'm hoping that others will be interested in this as well because I think this is a great thing to do. dA has started the project to create or send in pre-made christmas cards with a personalized message at which will then be sent to hospitals throughout America, Canada, and internationally(if able).
If anyone wants to participate...
The idea behind the Holiday Card Project is to simply try and do something nice for others. Last year the Project received a little over 1100 holiday cards sent in by over 600 deviants. Those cards were then divvied up and distributed in person by dA members at the UCI Medical Center in Orange, California. Extra cards were given to various hospitals in the U.S. and Canada for their staff to hand out to patients.
Exactly who receives the cards?
Ideally the cards will be distributed to both U.S. and international hospitals. However, we are limited by the fact that some hospitals don't want cards and others have rules against their distribution. The cards will be delivered in person by select deviants in the area of the respective hospitals. The patients who receive the cards age in range from children to seniors and have illness or injuries that vary from mild to terminal.
What should I write in a card?
Be as creative as you like. Just remember, the degree of illness for patients will vary from mild to terminal, so it is important to be cheerful. Some suggested greetings include, "Hope you're feeling better," "Thinking of you," or "Have a nice day." Try and stay away from "Get well soon" as it might not be appropriate for all patients. Remember to include a message of "Happy holidays" as the cards will be distributed for the holidays.
Can I use holiday cards purchased from a store?
Absolutely. Many drug stores or stationary stores have holiday cards for as little as ninety-nine cents. (If you're feeling ambitious, boxed card sets can often be purchased for only a few dollars.) These kinds of cards are great for the Holiday Card Project, but try and add a little decoration by drawing on the inside of the card or including a few doodles. Use color to brighten up the presentation; be creative.
Will the patients know who sent the cards?
The only way a patient will know who the card came from is if you sign your name, which you are welcome to do. You may also include your e-mail address in hopes of getting a reply, though, that can't be guaranteed. If you would like to send a card anonymously, you may.
When is the deadline for the Holiday Card Project?
All cards must be postmarked by December 15th, 2006
Where do I send a card?
Send the cards to this address:

OKAY - so I'm going to do this because I think this helps both the patient and the person actually doing the deed. An act of kindness is benefitting on both sides.
Who doesn't like to feel all warm and fuzzy inside for doing a good deed?! Better yet, for helping someone that is in the hospital? Adding a little sunshine to their day is a wonderful thing. Let's show what kindness is all about people!
ALSO - I took this info STRAIGHT from the message in my inbox at deviantART so ITS ALL THEIR WORDS! Don't come to me saying something about plagiarizing or something like that...though I hope this is allowed to broadcast to people not in the dA community.
...well if it isn't, tell me so I can resolve the issue.
*OH* I think I'm clear on promoting this, here's the link to the article if anyone wants to make sure this is legit -

Anyway, yeah, that's what I'm planning to do - already have my cards, bought two boxes of christmas cards and gonna put in a message and my name and email.
